Black and Blue picks up that story in the immediate fallout of the first book's confrontation and takes things to a somewhat more personal level than the city-spanning conflicts of the first novel. A strength of this series is how the challenges of empowered life rest alongside the daily demands of young twenty-somethings trying to define their roles in a world they don't fully recognize.
